Fitzfest at the chapel

FitzFest (June 7 to 11) celebrates London’s Fitzrovia with all its musical heritage from past generations together with the contemporary diversity that thrives today.

With a programme of music made entirely by musicians who have lived or worked in Fitzrovia over the centuries – and often played on historical instruments made in Fitzrovia – the festival is grounded in the local community. You can read about the full programme on the Fitzfest website. These are the events taking place at the chapel this year:

Wednesday 7 June

Tea Dance

1.30pm to 4pm (doors open from 1pm)

We are delighted to invite you to our Tea Dance at the Fitzrovia Chapel, a charming afternoon of waltz, tango, and foxtrot. With introductory lessons from celebrated dance teacher, Trevor Jackson. Beginners and improvers welcome. No partners required, make new friends here. Refreshments provided. Free event.

Thursday 8 June

Yoga and Meditation with Andy Sotto in the Fitzrovia Chapel

Join Andy for yoga from 9am to 11am, followed by meditation at 11am.

Neil McLaren Plays Bach on Rudall Carte Flute

9pm to 10pm
Internationally-renowned flautist and musicologist performs music by Bach on historical flutes made by Rudall Carte who had a workshop for many years on Berners Street, Fitzrovia.

Neil is a member of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and this concert takes place in the breathtaking Fitzrovia Chapel.

Friday 9 June

Yoga and Meditation with Andy Sotto in the Fitzrovia Chapel

Join Andy for yoga from 9am to 11am followed by meditation at 11am.

“Pure Bliss” Music by Sir Arthur Bliss. Couture Gala Concert

7.30pm to 9.30pm
An evening concert featuring the music of Sir Arthur Bliss in the beautiful Fitzrovia Chapel. Includes: Oboe Quintet, Clarinet Quintet and Conversations.

Played by internationally-renowned FitzFest musicians and featuring couture gowns by fashion designer Andy Sotto.

Saturday 10 June

Yoga and Meditation with Andy Sotto in the Fitzrovia Chapel

Join Andy for yoga from 9am to 11am followed by meditation at 11am.

 

Sunday 11 June

Middlesex Voices Interlude by Scanner

10am to 1pm and 3pm to 6pm
A musical sound installation by pioneering electronic musician, Scanner, incorporating the recorded memories from people that worked, trained and were treated at the former Middlesex Hospital.

DJ Set in the Chapel

1pm to 3pm
Relax on bean bags in the chapel to enjoy the DJ set and the beauty of the chapel ceiling.

Art exhibition: A Visual Treat in the Genre of Contemporary Miniature Painting.

6pm to 8pm
Illustrative, contemporary miniature paintings by Samar F Zia, meticulously executed in the style practised and perfected in the royal ateliers of the Mughal Empire.
